Rahul Chakraborty is an Indian GIS and Drone Technology Expert, and the Founder & Director of the Integrated Institute for Advanced Research & Information (IIARI). He is known for his expertise in geospatial technology, drone applications, and leading large-scale government and non-government projects across India and abroad.

Early Life

Rahul Chakraborty was born on 12 May in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. His interest in geography and spatial sciences began early, inspiring him to pursue a career in geospatial technology and applied research.

Education

  • Master’s in Urban Geography – Rabindra Bharati University (First Class)
  • Applied GIS-RS – Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Dehradun
  • Third Master’s in Data Science
  • Specialized training in UAV applications, Drone Technology, LiDAR, and SAR Technology
  • Holds a Drone Instructor Licence and a Commercial Drone Flying Licence

Career

Rahul has over a decade of experience in geospatial technology and drone-based solutions.

  • Founder & Director of IIARI, providing advanced research and training in GIS, RS, and drone technology.
  • Led over 25 GIS-based projects for government and non-government organizations.
  • Served as Principal Consultant for the "Project Topological Map Recreation" for the Dept. of Survey & Mapping of Botswana, South Africa.
  • Worked as Project Manager for the “Property Tax Register” project under the Urban Administration and Development Department, Govt. of Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal.
  • Provided special training in Drone & Geoinformatics to various colleges and universities across India for skill development.
  • Partnered with 53 colleges and 3 universities in India to provide skilled geospatial courses.

  • Delivered lectures in multiple national and international conferences.
  • Chaired over 51+ workshops and 33+ webinars on geospatial technology.
  • Trained over 15,000 students in GIS and Remote Sensing.
