The National CSR Development Portal is an Indian platform established on 01 August 2024 to act as an interactive marketplace for corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects. It connects corporates, implementing agencies, and NGOs to streamline CSR operations, compliance, and funding.

History of CSR in India

Corporate Social Responsibility in India has been influenced by social, philanthropic, and legal traditions. The term CSR was first introduced in 1953 by American economist Howard Bowen in his book Social Responsibilities of the Businessman. In India, the Companies Act of 2013 made CSR mandatory for select companies, creating a unique legal obligation for corporate entities to contribute towards social welfare. Since then, India has become the first country in the world to regulate CSR through legislation.
