Dr. Sumanta Mondal is an Indian academician, researcher, and administrator with over two decades of experience in pharmaceutical education, research, and institutional leadership. He is currently serving as Associate Professor and NSS Programme Officer (Unit-IX) at GITAM School of Pharmacy, GITAM (Deemed to be University), Visakhapatnam. His academic expertise includes pharmacognosy, phytochemistry, nanoformulations, analytical method development, and drug delivery systems.

Early Life and Personal Background

Dr. Sumanta Mondal was born on 29 November 1978 in India. He is the son of Mr. Susanta Kumar Mondal and Mrs. Ivabati Devi. He is Indian by nationality and is proficient in Hindi, English, Oriya, and Bengali.

Education

Dr. Sumanta Mondal completed his Diploma in Pharmacy from E.A.D.P., Gangtok, Sikkim in 1998. He earned his Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from Utkal University, Odisha in 2004, followed by a Master of Pharmacy in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from BPUT, Odisha in 2006. He was awarded a Ph.D. in Pharmacy from Berhampur University, Odisha in July 2011 under the guidance of Prof. Dr. G.K. Dash and Late Prof. Dr. M. Yedukundulu.

The title of his doctoral thesis was Phytochemical and Biological Studies on Few Medicinal Plants from Flora of Orissa Used by Folklore Against Various Diseases.

He is a registered pharmacist with the Pharmacy Council of India under the West Bengal State Pharmacy Council.

Academic and Professional Career

Dr. Mondal began his academic career as a Lecturer at Sir Balaji College of Pharmacy, Jaipur, Rajasthan from April 2006 to October 2008. He subsequently served as Lecturer at Matushree V. B. Manvar College of Pharmacy, Rajkot, Gujarat from November 2008 to June 2010.

He joined GITAM School of Pharmacy in June 2010 and has progressed through academic ranks, serving as Lecturer, Assistant Professor, and currently as Associate Professor since June 2019. He has also held several administrative and academic responsibilities, including Training and Placement Coordinator, Academic and Research Committee Member, and NSS Programme Officer (Unit-IX) since 2011.

Teaching and Administrative Responsibilities

Dr. Mondal has been involved in academic leadership, institutional planning, quality assurance, and student development initiatives. His responsibilities include academic administration, research supervision, policy development, student welfare, quality management, and institutional governance. He has also served as anti-ragging committee member, hostel coordinator, and CTA nominee at GITAM School of Pharmacy.

Dr. Mondal has supervised extensive research work at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. His research guidance includes 7 Ph.D. scholars awarded and 4 ongoing, 39 M.Pharm dissertations awarded, and 49 B.Pharm projects awarded.

He is associated with sponsored research projects, including an industry-academia collaborative project sanctioned by Botanic Healthcare (2024–2027) focusing on herbal extract standardization and nanoformulation development with a sanctioned amount of ₹15.89 lakh.

Patents

Dr. Mondal holds multiple UK and Indian design patents related to phytoconstituent sensors, nanoformulation equipment, herbal extractors, and pharmaceutical compositions, filed between 2024 and 2025.

Publications

Dr. Mondal has authored and co-authored numerous textbooks, book chapters, review articles, and research papers published in national and international journals. His publications span pharmacognosy, phytochemistry, analytical sciences, nanoformulations, and drug delivery systems. His research output includes over one hundred peer-reviewed research and review articles indexed in Scopus, Web of Science, and other academic databases.

Editorial and Professional Engagement

Dr. Mondal serves as Editor-in-Chief, editor, and editorial board member for several international scientific journals. He is an active reviewer for multiple reputed publishers and journals. He is a life member of professional organizations including Indian Hospital Pharmacy Association, Indian Science Congress Association, and Laboratory Animal Scientists Association.
