Arun Kumar is an Indian middle- and long-distance runner specializing in track and road racing events ranging from 5,000 metres to the full marathon. He hails from Ladwa village in Kurukshetra district, Haryana, and is known for his rise from a financially modest background to national and international recognition in athletics.

Early Life

Arun Kumar was born on 1 April 1995 in Ladwa village, Kurukshetra, Haryana. He grew up in a financially constrained environment, where limited resources posed challenges to pursuing professional sports. Despite these constraints, he developed a strong interest in athletics during his school years.

Athletic Beginnings

Arun began his athletic training during school and was mentored by coach Laxman Singh Panjeta, who identified his natural endurance and running ability at an early stage. Under structured guidance, Arun progressed rapidly in middle- and long-distance events.

Career

Arun Kumar has competed consistently in national and international track and road races. Despite recurring injuries during his career, he demonstrated resilience by returning to competitive form and achieving podium finishes in several prestigious events.

He became a two-time champion at the Kurukshetra University Athletics Men’s Championship during the 2012–13 season. His performances in national marathons and university-level competitions established him as a leading long-distance runner in India.

International Competitions

Arun has represented India at multiple international platforms. He finished among the top ten athletes at the Singapore Marathon and secured fourth place at the Tata Mumbai Marathon 2020. He has also competed in elite road races such as the Tata Steel Kolkata Marathon and the TCS World 10K Bengaluru.
