Founder
The foundation was established by Kumar Sumitt, an actor, director, educator and researcher with over two decades of experience in theatre and performing arts.
Early Life
Kumar Sumitt was born in a Hindu Brahmin family in the Mithila region of Bihar. He later moved to Patna where he pursued his education. At the age of 14, he was inspired by theatre and cinema, which led him to choose a career in performing arts.
Education
Kumar Sumitt has a diverse academic background including:
- Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from Kuvempu University
- Higher Diploma in Software Engineering from NIIT Patna
- PGDBA MBA in Human Resource from MIT School of Distance Education Pune
- Training at National School of Drama Sikkim
- Advanced training at Academy of Theatre Arts University of Mumbai
- Master of Arts in Dramatics from L N Mithila University Darbhanga
- PhD Scholar researching Acting Techniques of Bharata Natyashastra and Stanislavsky Realism
Career
Kumar Sumitt started his theatre journey in 2004 at Premchand Rangshala Patna as a backstage worker. Over time he evolved into an actor, director and theatre educator.
He has worked with major theatre groups including IPTA Patna, Bihar Art Theatre, Theatre Unit, Chetna Samiti, Kala Jagran and others. His experience includes acting, directing, script development, production and training.
He has performed in more than 100 stage productions and over 1500 open air shows addressing social issues like poverty, child labour and social awareness.
He has directed productions in multiple languages including Hindi, Maithili, Telugu, Punjabi, English, Kazakh and Russian along with mime performances.
International Work
Kumar Sumitt has worked with ICCR and Ministry of External Affairs Government of India and has represented Indian theatre internationally.
Notable international works include:
- Sita Ram performed in Kazakh and Russian in Kazakhstan in 2024
- Karma based on Mahabharata in Kazakh language in 2025
- Collaborations with Kazakh National Academy of Arts
He has also attended professional development workshops at Arena Stage USA.
Teaching and Education
Kumar Sumitt is an experienced educator and visiting faculty at multiple institutions including Academy of Theatre Arts University of Mumbai.
He has trained more than 5000 students in India and over 200 international students through workshops, theatre programs and acting training.
