Surinder Verma was born on 6 October 1948 in Kot Kapura (Punjab). His early life experiences shaped his commitment towards social reform and community service. After completing his primary education in Kot Kapura, he moved for further studies in 1963 at Chandigarh.
Education
Surinder Verma completed a Master of Arts degree in History and Political Science. He completed his graduation from DAV College, Chandigarh, followed by post-graduation in Political Science and History from Panjab University, Chandigarh, which laid the foundation for his understanding of governance, public policy, and citizen rights.
Career
Surinder Verma worked at the Food Corporation of India and retired in 2008. During his tenure with FCI Punjab Region, he served in the Accounts and Public Relations Division, where he handled official press releases and media communications.
With encouragement from senior officers, he launched two magazines titled “Consumer Voice” and “Investor’s Update”, marking the beginning of his focused engagement in consumer awareness and investor education.
He is the Chairman of the Citizens Awareness Group, an NGO focused on social issues. Additionally, he served as Chairman for Mirror365.com and ChandigarhToday.org, media platforms centered on regional news and awareness.
Social and Organizational Work
Inspired by family support and like-minded individuals, Surinder Verma founded and registered the Citizens Awareness Group (CAG) in 1994.

In recognition of his lifelong contribution, he was felicitated as “Champion of Investors Education and Awareness – 2025” by Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) during Bharat Ke Bazaar at the International Trade Fair, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. He also co-inaugurated the SEBI Pavilion “Bharat Ka Share Bazaar” alongside Shri Sanjeev Arora, Industry Minister, Government of Punjab. He is also scheduled to receive the National Excellent Award in Media and Communication on 11 April, 2026.
