Dr Arun Vishnar
Dr Arun Vishnar is an Indian gastroenterologist, hepatologist, endoscopist, and medical educator based in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. With over 35 years of experience in clinical practice, teaching, and research, he is known for his extensive work in gastrointestinal endoscopy, liver diseases, and academic medicine.
Early Life and Education
Dr Arun Vishnar was born on 13 July 1962 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India, to Late Shri Shyamlal Vishnar and Late Smt Sita Devi Vishnar, both eminent teachers of Indore. He completed his schooling at St Raphael’s School and St Paul Higher Secondary School, Indore.
He pursued a Bachelor of Science at Holkar Science College, Indore, during 1979–1980. He was admitted to the MBBS program in 1980 and completed his degree in 1985 from MGM Medical College, Indore. He later obtained his MD in Medicine in April 1990 from MGM Medical College and MY Hospital, Indore.
Academic and Teaching Career
Dr Vishnar has held several academic positions at MGM Medical College and MY Hospital, Indore.
From 1986 to 1989, he served as a resident and demonstrator in the Department of Medicine. Between 1993 and 2001, he worked as an assistant professor and consultant in the Department of Medicine and Gastroenterology. From 2001 to 2010, he was an associate professor and senior consultant, and from 2010 to 2014, he served as professor and senior consultant in the Department of Medicine and Gastroenterology.
Clinical Career
Dr Vishnar worked as a consultant gastroenterologist and endoscopist at MGM Medical College and MY Hospital, Indore, from 1993 to 2014. During this tenure, he performed more than 50,000 endoscopic procedures and contributed financial support amounting to approximately fifty lakh rupees to the institution.
He was associated with Vishesh Hospital, formerly known as Apollo Hospital, Indore, from 1991 to 2007 as a consultant gastroenterologist and endoscopist. He continued his association with Vishesh Hospital (old), Indore, from 2007 to 2019. Since 2020, he has been associated with Vishesh Jupiter Hospital, Indore, as a consultant gastroenterologist, hepatologist, and endoscopist.
Over his career, Dr Vishnar has performed approximately 150,000 diagnostic and therapeutic gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures.

- Ammonia levels in chronic liver disease and hepatic encephalopathy
- Pulmonary function tests in chronic liver diseases
- Autonomic functions in hepatic cirrhosis
- Role of Helicobacter pylori in GERD and acid peptic diseases
- Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis in chronic liver disease and antibiotic resistance
- Renal function evaluation in alcoholic liver disease
- FNAC in chronic liver diseases
- Colonoscopic changes in portal hypertension
- Ultrasonographic changes of the gallbladder in hepatitis
- Retrospective studies of upper gastrointestinal endoscopies
