Chairman Arshad Jamal
Arshad Jamal is a prominent Indian politician, social activist, education enthusiast, journalist, and businessman from Mau Nath Bhanjan (Mau), Uttar Pradesh. He is currently serving as the Chairman (President) of the Nagar Palika Parishad, Mau. Locally, he is widely known as “Chairman Sahab” or “Arshad Jamal Chairman Mau.”
Early Life and Education (English)
Arshad Jamal was born on 2 October 1961 in Mau Nath Bhanjan into a respected business family. His grandfather, Maulvi Mohammad Farooq, was a religious scholar as well as a practitioner of Unani medicine. His family has traditionally been associated with trade, particularly in the power loom saree and yarn industry.
He received his education from Millat Nursery School, Madrasa Darul Uloom, Talimuddin Inter College, Durga Dat Chunni Lal Sagarmal Degree College, and Shibli PG College. He completed his Master’s degree in Urdu Literature from Gorakhpur University. He has also been an active sports enthusiast and played football and cricket during his youth.

अरशद जमाल का जन्म 2 अक्टूबर 1961 को मऊनाथ भंजन में एक प्रतिष्ठित व्यवसायिक परिवार में हुआ। उनके दादा मौलवी मोहम्मद फारूक एक धर्मगुरु होने के साथ-साथ यूनानी चिकित्सक भी थे। उनका परिवार मुख्य रूप से पावरलूम साड़ी और धागा उद्योग से जुड़ा रहा है।
उन्होंने मिल्लत नर्सरी स्कूल, मदरसा दारुल उलूम, तालीमुद्दीन इंटर कॉलेज, दुर्गा दत्त चुन्नी लाल सागरमल डिग्री कॉलेज और शिबली पीजी कॉलेज से शिक्षा प्राप्त की। उन्होंने गोरखपुर विश्वविद्यालय से उर्दू साहित्य में एम.ए. की डिग्री हासिल की। वे फुटबॉल और क्रिकेट के अच्छे खिलाड़ी भी रहे हैं।
Political Life (English)
Arshad Jamal has had a long and active political career. He spent nearly 37 years with Mulayam Singh Yadav and the Samajwadi Party (SP), during which he served as District President of SP, Mau.
In 2000, he was elected Chairman of Nagar Palika Parishad Mau for the first time. His work in waste management, sanitation, drinking water supply, and drainage earned him the title of *“Development Man of Mau”* or *“Mini Kalpanath.”*
In 2007, the late Mulayam Singh Yadav appointed him District President of Mau. In 2009, he contested the Ghosi Lok Sabha seat on an SP ticket and lost narrowly to BSP candidate Dara Singh Chauhan.
In the 2023 municipal elections, after his SP ticket was withdrawn, he joined the Bahujan Samaj Party on the invitation of former Chief Minister Mayawati. Contesting on a BSP ticket, he won by a record margin of 36,542 votes, considered one of the highest victory margins among 700+ municipal bodies in Uttar Pradesh.
He is currently serving as BSP Chairman of Mau and remains actively involved in urban development.

वे बुनकर समुदाय के अधिकारों के लिए मुखर आवाज़ हैं और पावरलूम बुनकरों के फ्लैट रेट को बहाल कराने में उनकी महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका रही है। वे उत्तर प्रदेश बुनकर फोरम के प्रदेश अध्यक्ष भी हैं।
Journalism and Literature
In 1997, Arshad Jamal started the Urdu daily newspaper Bang-e-Mashriq, inaugurated by former Defence Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav. He also runs the YouTube channel Aapki Baat, which features interviews, student motivation, and discussions on local issues.
