After the Partition of India in 1947, his family migrated to Phagwara in Punjab and later settled in Paonta Sahib in 1961.
His father, Late S. Tarlok Singh Narang, was a founder member of the Sirmour Truck Operators Union since 1975. His grandfather, S. Thakar Singh Narang, was a businessman engaged in the food grains and cloth trade.
