GOBINDA DHAR is an Indian Headmaster, writer, editor and cultural organizer from Tripura, India. He is widely known for his contribution to education and his active role in the little magazine movement in North-East India.

Early Life

GOBINDA DHAR was born on 17 May 1972 in Padmapur, Dharmanagar, in the then North Tripura district. His father, Dakshinaranjan Dhar, worked as a laboratory assistant in the education department and was also associated with theatre and book binding. His mother, Sushama Rani Dhar, was a homemaker.

He faced significant challenges in early life after the sudden demise of his father, growing up in a large family with limited resources.

Education

GOBINDA DHAR began his education in 1978 at Ratachhara High Basic School. He passed his Madhyamik examination in 1990. Due to financial and family challenges, he could not continue formal higher education and entered professional life early.

Career

GOBINDA DHAR started his career as a primary school teacher on 15 July 1991 at Uttar Ratachhara Lower Basic School at a young age.

Over the years, he continued his dedication to education and rose to the position of Headmaster. Currently, he is serving at Gajendra Kumar Amulyabala J.B School since 11 November 2023.

His expected date of retirement is 31 July 2032.

Cultural and Literary Contributions

Alongside his teaching career, GOBINDA DHAR has made significant contributions to literature and cultural development.

He was actively involved in theatre (Jatra) between 1990 and 1995, participating in performances and cultural activities.

He later became deeply involved in the little magazine movement and founded and edited several literary publications including:

  • Srot
  • Srotoswini
  • Kusum
  • Kobitaghar
  • Bangla Bhasha (Path Patrika)

He also established Srotoswini Cultural Organization.

Research and Archive Work

GOBINDA DHAR played a pioneering role in establishing the North Eastern Little Magazine Manuscript Preservation and Research Centre.

Since 1995, he has been collecting and preserving thousands of little magazines, manuscripts and literary documents. The center later expanded its activities in Kumarghat and has become a resource hub for researchers, writers and scholars.

Many researchers from India and Bangladesh have visited and benefited from this archive.

Events and Initiatives

GOBINDA DHAR has organized several literary and cultural events including:

  • Little Magazine Festivals
  • Book fairs in Kumarghat
  • Poetry and cultural conferences

In 2016, an International Little Magazine Festival was organized under his initiative, involving participants from India and Bangladesh.

Other Activities

He also contributed to the formation of organizations such as Matribhasha Mission and Anandadhara in 2012.

He has been associated with promoting Bengali language and literature through grassroots initiatives.
